Local Democratic Women's Group Wins Two Statewide Awards

September 23, 2004 (Lexington, NC) - Democratic Women of Davidson County
(DWDC) was presented with two statewide awards on Saturday, September 18,
2004 at the North Carolina Democratic Women's Convention in Raleigh.

The first award was the Betty Ray McCain Communications Award for
"outstanding achievement in creatively communicating the Democratic message
to its members and the community at large." DWDC has creatively used a
variety of means to communicate with members and others interested in the
Democratic Party including mailings, email notices, an automated phone
service that calls hundreds of people with recorded meeting reminders,
notices in the eight newspapers read by the citizens of Davidson County, and
listings with state and national Democratic websites. The DWDC also created
and manages the website for the Davidson County Democratic Party.

The DWDC also won first place for "achievement in membership growth and
retention for clubs with 50-100 members." In the last year, DWDC grew by
over 70% and currently has 89 members. The DWDC formally reorganized in July
2003 after several years of inactivity.

"We have worked very hard over the last year to energize Democratic women to
get involved in the political process and to work on local, state, and
national races in this election year," says Joan Brinson Dressler, president
of the DWDC. "It is wonderful to be recognized by our peers statewide for
all of our hard work."

DWDC is working on several projects leading up to the November 2, 2004
election and always welcomes new members and volunteers. DWDC is managing
Democratic Party Headquarters at 101 S. Main Street in Lexington, is
developing a voter guide for county residents to take to the polls on
Election Day, and is reaching out to women who have not yet registered to
vote, as well as registered women who have not voted in recent elections.
