Voting: How Sweet It Is! -- Voter Registration Party with Free Gourmet Desserts

The Democratic Party is hosting a last-chance voter registration party on Thursday, October 7 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Headquarters, 101 S. Main Street, in Lexington. Calling All Democrats: We Need Help with Phone Banking

Starting next week, we will be making Get-Out-The-Vote phone calls to targeted precincts several nights a week. On Wednesday nights, staff from the Erskine Bowles Senate campaign will be at our Lexington Headquarters working with our volunteers to make calls on Bowles' behalf. We need volunteers at Headquarters from 6:00-9:00 p.m. on several nights a week through Election Day. If you can volunteer to help with these phone banks, please contact Edgar Miller at edgarmiller@earthlink.net or 336-238-5319 or sign up at Headquarters. Daytime volunteers staffing the Headquarters can also make calls. Volunteers will be provided with scripts to follow.

Democratic Women Win Two Statewide Awards

Democratic Women of Davidson County (DWDC) was presented with two statewide awards on Saturday, September 18, 2004 at the North Carolina Democratic Women's Convention in Raleigh. The first award was the Betty Ray McCain Communications Award for "outstanding achievement in creatively communicating the Democratic message to its members and the community at large." DWDC has creatively used a variety of means to communicate with members and others interested in the Democratic Party including mailings, email notices, an automated phone service that calls hundreds of people with recorded meeting reminders, notices in the newspapers read by the citizens of Davidson County, and listings with state and national Democratic websites. The DWDC also created and manages the website for the Davidson County Democratic Party at www.DavidsonCountyDemocrats.org.

The DWDC also won first place for "achievement in membership growth and retention for clubs with 50-100 members." In the last year, DWDC grew by over 70% and currently has 89 members. The DWDC formally reorganized in July 2003 after several years of inactivity.

Get Your Kerry-Edwards Yard Sign -- How to Help the Kerry-Edwards Campaign

Kerry-Edwards yard signs are available at Headquarters, first-come, first-served. If you want to volunteer with the Kerry-Edwards campaign directly, they are seeking canvassers, phone bank captains and house party hosts. Contact the North Carolina campaign office directly at northcarolina@johnkerry.com or 919-832-5559.

The Kerry/Edwards campaign is also coordinating with people who live out-of-state who want to help make North Carolina a "blue" state. Many people are volunteering to travel, work and do whatever it takes to help NC elect John Kerry! However, many of them need a place to stay. If you have an extra bed, extra room or an extra place, contact Matthew Danielson at 919-832-5550 or email northcarolina@johnkerry.com.

In Memorium

We were saddened to learn of the recent passing of two our our local party leaders, Mamie Colson and Willie Shoaf. Our thoughts and prayers are with their loved ones during this difficult time.
